I started my journey in software development in May of 2021 when I helped a friend redesign and build a website. I was immediately intrigued and decided to pursue my newfound passion for development by entering a 7 month intensive, project-based program. During my time at Turing School of Software and Design I became very proficient in Javascript and React, and solidified my passion for software development. As a massage therapist and athlete, I have always been body-centered and movement focused. I have learned how to break down large problems into smaller parts, and see how each part plays into the big picture. I spent many years managing teams in the restaurant industry, and have learned a lot about interpersonal communication and the amazing skill of truly listening. Once I found software development, I was able to merge my outstanding ability to manage and communicate within teams, and my passion for problem solving, code architecture, and solving real-world problems. I am a front-end developer, specializing in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, that is interested in working with creative teams that inspire and empower people to be creative, productive, and successful in their lives. Being a huge advocate for creative expression has always been a very important part of my life since I was young. It has allowed me to express myself in creative ways in web development, designing, photography, and music production and help others do the same.

I’ve always enjoyed collaboratively working to solve technical challenges. This is one aspect that drew me to working on the production side of the entertainment industry as a camera operator. For the last five years, my day-to-day involved adapting to ever-changing time constraints and technical requirements, while maintaining a calm and creative headspace for collaborating with my peers. After five tough-but-rewarding years, I decided that I wanted to continue leveraging my creativity in a fast-paced, technical career, but in an industry where I could have more control over my work. Having ownership over my contributions to a team is huge for me, and I’m excited to start working in an Agile workplace that can support that. I believe my experience as a self-starter in media production and curiosity for all things technical has readied me for my next chapter as a full-time front-end junior software developer. I am a software developer about to graduate from the Turing school of software development! I am very excited to join the industry after coming from a background in the music business, management, and performance, as well as years of experience in education and higher education. The skills that I’ve gained in the past 15 years of my life as a Musician and Educator have been transferable to learning all new skill sets involved with the software development field demands. As a lifelong learner, I know the hours, and time it takes to learn new skills and the intricacies of your trade.

Born & raised in Wisconsin, having lived in France, and now a resident of Colorado for over a decade, I have an eclectic mix of experiences and interests as my resume probably shows. I’ve worked a lot of different jobs over the years: retail, building services (read: janitor), math tutor, and I was even a stadium vendor at Sea World for a summer. Most recently I worked in home-building managing the build of those homes until I could hand it off to a happy home-buyer. But there was something about this work that wasn’t fulfilling in the way I wanted. Leaning on my past for insight into a career-change, my varied experiences have given me insight into what I want and expect out of a career—to always be learning, trying new things, and setting new goals. I am now in the field of tech because the work is… you guessed it, eclectic! What I love most about tech, and particularly programming, is the ability to set out with a vision and see it through to its deliverable fruition. And considering all of the technologies, frameworks, and languages, the possibilities are endless.
