I did graphic design professionally for 20 years before a series of events tore me down. As part of my healing I took a chance on myself, my future, my family and entered a development bootcamp. Not knowing where it would lead or even if I could do it. Months later I graduated knowing how to code, how to think as a developer and knowing a TON about myself. I don’t know where this journey will go but I know I am in it to build tools to help lift others up. My family has been so supportive I’m ready to be able to help us level up too.

I have spent many years in the hospitality industry, most of which was in the bar and restaurant world. My favorite part of those jobs was having the ability to fabricate and create something that would bring joy and happiness to a guest. I have been a valuable asset to virtually every employer I've had over this part of my career. After working for 4+ years as a healthcare worker, I decided to break into the tech industry and switch careers to become a software engineer. Tech has always interested me whether it be video games, social media, computers, or cell phones. I am very excited knowing that software engineering as a field is constantly growing and changing and I plan on being a lifelong learner in this career.

I am a Full-stack developer with over five years of experience developing in Ruby on Rails. I first took up web development in 2013 after exiting a startup I founded, where I worked as the product manager. I'm a full-stack software engineer looking for my second SE role. In my first role I worked on internal and customer-facing applications at the Church Pension Group that provides services to more than 30,000 people and institutions affiliated with The Episcopal Church. Previously, I ran two flagship developer conferences for Droidcon (world’s largest Android developer conference series) and was in charge of overall project management, developer community outreach and event logistics. And even before that, I taught English as a second language!

Prior to discovering my passion for writing code, I worked for 10+ years in the urban planning and economic development sector. Through roles in nonprofits, private firms, academic research, and consulting, I gained a deep appreciation for the power of data - which inspired me to expand my technical skillset and pursue my next career step in software development. In 2021, I started The Odin Project’s full-stack Ruby on Rails curriculum. I'm excited to contribute to growing products and teams through building and maintaining web applications.
